Mercedes S63 AMG Plug-in Hybrid
THE MOST POWERFUL S-CLASS
The new Mercedes S63 AMG hybrid is the most powerful S-Class the company has ever engineered. The iconic saloon has been upgraded into a hybrid to keep up with the new generation of vehicles. A price tag will be announced in early January next year however, expect the Plug-in hybrid costs to be over the usual £120,000+ S-Class price range.
Firstly, this Mercedes S63 AMG is the first S-class vehicle to feature an AMG-specific front end. An all-new grille with vertical slats, a deeper bumper, and massive air intakes. There’s also a fair amount of carbon fibre options.
Secondly, on the side, there are even more optional carbon fiber features for the door mirrors and skirting. You will have 20-inch alloy wheels as standard, with the upgradable option of 21-inch forged alloys that are stronger and lighter. And of course, this vehicle comes with automatic door handles that open with the stroke of a finger. As this is a hybrid vehicle you will find two fuel filler caps one on the left for charging the battery and one on the right for petrol.
Lastly, the back of this plug-in hybrid does not differ much compared to the standard S-class saloon. However, some features set it apart as n E-performance version notably the AMG-specific rear bumper with the option of carbon fiber. Red lettering for the A63 badge and the quad exhausts help tie it all together. The room needed to accommodate the battery and electric motor in the back effects boot space. Consequently, the boot only has around 300L of space.
Upfront the vehicle uses a four-litre twin-turbo V8 engine by itself making up to 612 horsepower. In the back, you will also find an electric motor connected to a two-speed gearbox and battery pack which makes up to 190 horsepower. Together they combine to achieve a total of 802 horsepower! This plug-in hybrid has a 13 kW hour battery with a range of 20 miles however, it only uses AC charging only.

Now on to the interior, the inside of the Mercedes S-Class was already a luxurious place to sit. Now with this new AMG S63, a few upgrades make it feel more sporty. The more noticeable difference would be the new AMG-specific driving wheel in comparison to a standard s-class the design is now chunkier. The wheel has two dials at the bottom used for switching between various driving modes.
The seats are the same as that in the s-class but have some added AMG features. With an AMG-specific pattern, badge, and embroidered crest. The infotainment system also has AMG-specific features showing various settings related to how the electric motors and engine are working in collaboration.
The backseats do not fall short in terms of luxury. One of the seats reclines and has calf massage functions. Both seats have screens for entertainment and comfy headrests. Those being chauffeured will be able to track driving data from the rear seats using the screens.
