Your electric vehicle will be supplied with a 3 pin domestic socket charging cable supplied by the manufacturer. This cable allows you to plug your car into a 3 pin domestic socket providing approx 2-3kw charging power. This is the slowest form of charging taking up to 2 days to fully charge some vehicles. A home 7kW ev charger installation will provide an 8-12 hour low battery full charge.

Whats the difference between them and which features should you be looking out for.

All EV Chargers sold buy reputable suppliers in the UK  will need to conform to safety, health and environmental requirements under CE. 

Electrical safety standards for the EV Charger installation also require the device to have safety cut out protection. Its important to ask whether the ev charger your purchasing has these built in.

If not, these additional safety devices will need to be installed with the EV charger to ensure your charger is safe to use. This will increase the cost of the installation, so beware to check the technical specification. What may have seemed as a competitively priced EV charger, may require a number of hidden cost electrical installation add-ons. 

Protection devices built into our 7kW charger 

RCD PROTECTION - This built in device monitors the electrical current for leakages and goes into fault detection mode if a leakage is detected. 

PEN FAULT PROTECTION - This monitors the earth so in the event the earthing is lost the charger will go into fault dection mode. This device prevents the requirement for an earth rod installation at your home.

RCBO -  In addition to these safety devices our installers will fit an RCBO device at the electrical consumer board. The RCBO offers phase imbalance protection (leakage detection) and over current protection. 6monthly testing availablity.
